The Calcutta Tramways Company while executing this Project for extension of Tram Services from Maniktala to Bidhannagar Railway Station took up the Project of Tree Transplantation. These trees had grown up into impressive green belt over the past few years along the median of Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue.Tramway Company, in consultation with Government of West Bengal , decided that the trees should not be cut down, but should be transplanted. as many as 90 full- grown trees were transplanted out of which 89 trees survived.This Project is the first of its kind in Calcutta.
